Diablo III for CONSOLES?!?

Hey guys, as you know, my friend is actually unable to blog due to his internet issues - consequently, I've resorted to blogging about other games, so if you're interested in DotA 2 stuff, make sure to check back in a day or so! Anyways, GamesCom 2011 has given us a LOT of upsets and surprises. The most surprising of which that I think is that DIABLO 3 WILL HAVE CONSOLE COUNTERPARTS! I know that there were rumors for this, but they are actually true as seen here. Wow...what do you guys think?

Change of Pace

As many of you guys might have noticed, I've actually had to cut the liveblogging and recaps due to internet issues. I'm moving into my new apartment soon, and once I do I'll have much more stable internet, so make sure to check in in 1-2 days :( Enjoy the games!

DotA 2 International Tournament Day 3: Bracket Play Recap

Unforunately, I was unable to liveblog today due to some internet issues :( Currently sitting at an internet cafe, and will be posting the recap up in increments. First up, we have

VIRUS vs MYM
Coming from the loser bracket (round 2), the loser of this match will be forced to go home. With a lot of pressure and money on the line, MYM actually picks up Tinker, which is rather abnormal. Apart from this pick though, the rest look pretty normal.
Virus (Radiant)
- Windrunner (top)
- AA (mid)
- Furion (jungle)
- Morphling (bot)
- ES (bot)

MYM (Dire)
- Tinker (top)
- Mirana (bot)
- Sand King (bot)
- Beastmaster (mid)
- Lion (top)

Morph gets FB with a good furion DD gank. Quiet game, with MYM evening the score with a BM/lion gank mid. Things are rather slow but look to be in the favor of Virus, with a few kills on Mirana as well as some failed ganks on Morphling. Things however, seem to be swinging in favor of MYM after some good BM play from DeMoN, but Virus comes back and is able to take middle tower after a good team fight. Virus takes this momentum and is able to pick off a few more heroes and take top tower as well. MYM comes back and takes a team fight at Roshan however, and is able to not only kill a few Virus players, but also get the Aegis.  From this point on, they take control of the game and take another Roshan kill and are able to flank Virus as they try to push the second tier bottom tower. They continue to apply pressure and behind a farmed Mirana are able to win.

DotA 2 International Tournament Day 2: Bracket Play Recap

Day 2 of the DotA 2 international tournament is over, with the results and winners all shown above (sorry for spoilers!) For anyone following the live blogging, my internet crapped out halfway through the OK.Nirvana.CN vs. Mineski game, which I heard was actually the most epic of the day, so sorry for that. The rest of the day however marked the first elimination games and the first teams leaving the tournament. CHECK OUT THE HERO STATS/USAGE!

SGC dropped to Virus in the Loser Bracket, with a rather one-sided game in terms of hero kills up to the end (22 - 7 or something like that), with the game-decider coming as a split push with Furion and a farmed Mirana up top, finally dropping the Shadowfiend and winning the game when SF had no buybacks.

GGnet was then eliminated from the tournament by MITH-TRUST in a great game for Morphling fans, as Mith's morphling had freefarm for arguably the entire time and was unstoppable, ultimately pushing the bottom lane by himself completely. Check out the live blog for more details!

nevo was eliminated by MUFC through excellent weaver play, ending up with stellar farm and great team support by the Chen and the Beastmaster - once again, check out the live blog for more details.

In the winner bracket, EHOME started off versus TyLoo in a clash of Chinese teams. EHOME was able to take a very convincing lead and drew out the game rather long in a typical "Chinese" fashion, and with 1 million $$$ on the line, was able to drop TyLoo into the losers bracket.

OK.int then dropped a match to iG, which some people thought to be very surprising, although I believe iG to be one of the strongest teams of the tournament. It was a fantastic game (I personally believe the best game of the day, though I didn't catch the Mineski game) and very close with some fantastic play by the Lion on iG, with iG finally able to push bottom after a successful gank. Their farmed weaver was able to outcarry the Faceless Void and after pushing bottom rax, were able to win the game and drop OK.int

Na'Vi, one of the tournament favorites then managed to defeat M5 from Russia in a nail-biter, with M5 even looking stronger towards the end. However, Na'Vi had a very clutch sentry ward that spotted an invisible Storm Spirit and after disposing of him, managed to end the game (check out more details in the liveblog!)

MYM then fell versus Scythe in a very good match, but just could not hold off versus a super farmed Mirana, which seems to be a trend seen a lot today. Tomorrow marks the third day of the DotA 2 tournament, with the Winners Bracket Semifinals and then Losers Bracket Rounds 2 and 3. I will, once again, be live blogging and recapping so if you enjoyed today's liveblog, make sure to tune it tomorrow and tell your friends! Schedule of games is below:

DotA 2 International Tournament Day 2: Live Blogging

Day 2 of the DotA 2 international tournament marks the start of elimination play! With the group stage done and brackets finalized, we'll start to see teams play with their backs against the wall, especially from the loser bracket. If you missed any games or want to see the brackets, be sure to check it out here or here.

Once again, the games for today and the schedule for today can be seen here! Because I was not able to catch a few of the earlier games, I will do a recap of the day when all the games finish. Now onto the blogging!

NEVO VS MUFC
The first game that I was able to catch due to time zone issues, with nevo on the Radiant side and MUFC on the Dire. Starting off with an early anti-mage pick up, nevo seemed to want to drag the game into the later stages and get the AM farmed up. MUFC, however, picked up Chen and Beastmaster and looked for early ganks and tower pushes. "Tri-laning" bot with VS/Lion in the lane and Chen in the jungle, MUFC finished up their laning phase with BM mid and Weaver top.

nevo, on the other hand, sent their trilane bottom (Ancient Apparition, Venomancer, and Anti-Mage), with Clockwerk mid and windrunner top. The jungle/dual lane from MUFC was able to gain lane control almost immediately, shutting down nevo's anti-mage completely. This forced an early lane switch by AngeL on anti-mage from bottom to top, causing him to lose some much needed farm time - it didn't help that SilverCross on Weaver was destroying Windrunner top. Chen and Beastmaster were able to successfully push down lanes and keep the other team on the back foot, as Anti-Mage really could not do anything the entire game. Weaver ended up with over 560 GPM, finishing up arguably one of the earliest Radiances in the tournament )(24 or so minutes). They pushed a few rax in, and as they were pummeling the throne of the Radiant, SilverCross managed to go and buy a rapier, cementing the game. MUFC > NEVO.

MITH-TRUST VS GGNET
MiTH-Trust from Thailand vs GGnet. Mith banning Nature's Prophet (Furion) and Nightstalker early, two very ordinary bans especially in terms of the usage of heroes this tournament. GGNet bans anti-mage and windrunner, picking up Beastmaster and Weaver early, which are very very strong, especially seen in the last game between MUFC and nevo. Mith picks up Lich, Pugna, and Sven, which are some very good team fight heroes with lane presence as well. GGnet picks up Chen next, with has some good pushing power and team fight along with Beastmaster. Mith gets lina and...MORPHLING AHHHH. Best. Hero. Ever. GGnet finishes up their line-up with Witch Doctor. Therefore, line-ups are:
Mith-Trust (Radiant)
- Lich
- Pugna
- Sven
- Lina
- Morphling

GGnet (Dire)
- Weaver
- Witch Doctor
- Chen
- Beastmaster
- Clockwerk

Mith sends Lina, Sven, and Morphling bot, Pugna mid, and Lich top. GGnet sends Beastmaster mid, Chen jungle, Witch Doctor and Weaver top, and Clockwerk bottom. Lina and Sven start to roam from bottom lane immediately, going top and trying to gank Chen in jungle. Chen, however, with some excellent micro, uses troll warlord to stop Lina from combo-ing. Lina and Sven then go middle and get first blood with the help of pugna on Beastmaster. Lina and Sven go back bottom and camp it, getting a few kills on Clockwerk, as Mith lane swaps, sending Lich middle and Pugna top. This Morphling, however, is going to be a problem with over 50 cs at 8 minutes in. Morphling has some incredible farm already, surviving a ton of ganks and getting a 15 minute Linken's...while Mith is successfully ganking weaver with dust constantly. A semi-team fight going on top lane with both carries (Morphling and Weaver) farming, both teams coming out rather even. Morphling looks to be going for Manta after his linkens, with a ridiculous farm. Mith goes for another push top while Morphling solo pushes bot, and manages to kill 3/5 players with relative ease as Morphling pushes the base tower bottom, and picks up Boots of Travel. Morphling SOLO PUSHES bot rax, as the rest of the team pushes top. GGnet goes out of the tournament 0-4, as Mith advances. MITH > GGNET

NA'VI VS M5
One of the most anticipated games of the day is finally here! Na'Vi, the tournament favorite, faces off against a fantastic team that had a pretty good time in the group stage, defeating MYM. Na'vi picks up an early chen and AA, two heroes that have definitely seen a lot of play in the tournament. They also pick up Mirana, most likely for XBOCT, who has been playing a great Mirana for them. They wrap it up with Tidehunter and Viper, and if anyone watched yesterday's games, they know how strong Dendi's Viper is. On the Dire side, M5 counters the Chen with an enchantress, who has less team fight but more ganking potential. They also pick up VS, storm, dark seer, and night stalker, a very gank heavy lineup.

Na'Vi (Radiant)
- Viper
- Mirana
- Tidehunter
- Chen
- Ancient Apparition

M5 (Dire)
- Enchantress
- Storm
- VS
- NS
- Dark Seer

Na'vi sends tidehunter/Viper bot, Chen jungle, AA mid, and Mirana top lane, whereas M5 sends Storm mid, Dark seer solo bot, NS/VS top, enchantress jungle, with very similar lanes and safe farm for their carries. M5 goes for an early gank and takes out the top tower at 2 minutes, and continue pushing on. Now lag... :(
And we're back! Tidehunter goes mid to gank storm right as the dire side goes as well, but AA ulti and tide are able to kill the Storm first. Artstyle on Viper manages to pick off Dark seer as well. However, night time changes everything. Night stalker comes in during the night and picks off AA first, and then gets two other kills, but are unable to push mid tower as AA's ulti hits NS and picks him off. M5 goes for another push mid, but the AA ulti is just too strong as Na'vi holds them back. Na'vi is showing some fantastic teamwork and reaction time here, with Dendi tp'ing bottom right as Storm jumps Viper. They're going bottom again for Viper, but already picked up his vanguard. Tidehunter and Dendi react fast and are able to pick off 2 with Tidehunter ultimate, and Artstyle on Viper continues to push bot tower, with Na'vi up 10-6 in hero kills.

Na'vi, however, overextends bottom second-tier tower with Tidehunter having to use his ultimate for the tower, but sacrificing both his life and Chen's life.
Na'vi is going to push the tier 3 mid tower, but this could be a huge mistake, as M5 manages to get the bottom tier 2 tower. AA ulti misses basically everything, and M5 is able to pick off 3 players without even taking the Tier 3 tower. Na'vi is now 15-16 in terms of hero kills. NS picks up Agh's sceptre as well, which gives him clearvision. This could mark Na'vi's end if NS gets some kills at night.

However, Storm Spirit runs into a sentry ward with invis and dies without any gold for buyback, costing middle rax AND top melee rax. Even after Storm Spirit's rez, they still lose 4 players and Na'vi is able to pick off top rax as well, basically cementing their win. Na'vi goes for the final push bottom and manages to kill almost all of M5, despite a great wall from Dark Seer. NA'VI > M5

OK.NIRVANA.CN VS MINESKI
Asian teams fighting it out, China vs Philippines, with Mineski going 0-3 in group stages looking for their first win of the tournament. OK starts by banning NS and Chen at first and Mineski banning Lich and Spectre, knowing how strong he is especially in the Chinese farming metagame. OK picks up Beastmaster first, and Mineski counters with Clockwerk and earthshaker, while OK picks VS and WEAVER (zzz). Mineski then picks up Ancient Apparition, Mirana, and Slardar, with OK wrapping up their lineup with Enigma and Windrunner.

OK.CN (Radiant)
- Engima
- Weaver
- Beastmaster
- Windrunner
- Vengeful Spirit

Mineski (Dire)
- Earthshaker
- Mirana
- AA
- Slardar
- Clockwerk

Mineski sends ES/Mirana bottom and AA/Slardar top and Clockwerk mid, while OK sends BM mid, Weaver and VS bot, Windrunner top, and Engima bottom jungle. Mineski seems content with having their Slardar farm top, with AA doing a good job of babysitting. AA and ES try to go for a gank on BM mid, but to no avail, causing Slardar to take some harass from Windrunner. And finally, after 8 min, OK's BM draws first blood on a gank bottom on the Earthshaker. They go for a push bottom with Enigma conversions but fall back. OK is finally able to kill Slardar and now 13 minutes in, OK is up 5-3 in hero kills. OK pushes mid tower and with a pretty good Engima ultimate is able to get the tower and net two kills, and a blink dagger for Enigma.

Next OK gank however, Mineski is able to get a great conutergank and a 4-0 trade, finishing off everyone except for Vengeful spirit with some great Clockwerk play. Weaver is getting some good farm however, almost finishing up his radiance as Mineski pushes top tower. Mineski is able to pick off a few heroes and takes the hero kill lead 10-8.

DotA 2 International Tournament Day 1: Group Stage Recap

Day 1 of the DotA 2 unveiling tournament is over! Check out the statistics for all the heroes used. The group stage has just wrapped up with a few surprises as well as some expected matches, but all in all, it was a very good day in terms of DotA 2. There were some initial technical issues such as the stream dying, as well as audio issues and server issues, but the first experience of DotA 2 for the general public was spectacular, with over 4 million viewers on the streams.
If all of this is news to you and you are absolutely clueless about what DotA is, please check out my earlier post that goes over the type of game it is as well as some tournament information!
Anyways, on to the group stage (click for replays and official schedules):

With StarsBoba unable to attend due to Visa issues and LGD giving up their spot to Virus, EHOME and Na'Vi coming in as strong favorites coming into this tournament, it is no surprise that they swept their groups. However, GGnet's 0-3 day was arguably the largest upset. Having not really had any boot camp training, which the rest of the top-tier teams all employed, GGnet came into the tournament without any real experience. However, it was to be expected as they really have been underperforming recently and with the fresh blood/roster changes, they were not expected to come in and overwhelm the general audience. However, a 0-3 group stage with names such as KuroKy and Kebap is very disheartening for their team.

In other news, however, the rest of the games really varied from stomps to fantastic matches. The match of the day was most likely one of the first ones between EHOME and iG, two Chinese teams that are largely considered the best teams in the scene. Their match was 94 minutes long, ultimately coming down to a farmed spectre and a farmed weaver. EHOME prevailed in the end, winning one of the most nail biting games of the day. The rest of the day was rather uneventful for EHOME, sweeping through Mineski and SGC with relative ease.

Na'Vi, the other tournament favorite, had a very easy time as well, sweeping through Scythe, nevo, and GGnet with ease with their exception use of Night Stalker and Mirana.

MYM (Meet Your Makers), another team vying for the top European spot with Na'Vi, ran into some trouble with M5's Night Stalker and Spectre, but managed to defeat both MiTH and MUFC with superb Chen use on Maelk.

OK.Nirvana's 2 teams, international and China, both performed quite well also.OK.Nirvana.int swept their group, defeating their Chinese counterparts as well. Their use of Night Stalker was also crucial, a trend that was seen a lot today.

With the results in, the bracket is ready for tomorrow's games! Luckily, tomorrow's games will all be shoutcasted, starting at 10:00 AM CET (4:00 AM EST), and if you miss any, make sure to check in here as I will be recapping them as well! The bracket and schedule can be seen below, and I hope you liked this recap. Make sure to tune in for more games, as well as more recaps!
